Cuisinart Portable Tabletop Gas Grill Review

Not everyone needs a massive grill that’s big enough to host a block party, and not everyone has the space to store such a beast.

For all of you who don’t have a lot to spend and don’t have much space here are gas tabletop grills.

Today I am presenting you the Cuisinart portable tabletop gas grill that is a great cooking device for all food lovers.

Tabletop models are wonderful to put in your kitchen (only the indoor models) or on the balcony since they won’t take much of your space.

If you like to prepare grilled food here is an outdoor cooking device that will make it happen.

Cuisinart CGG-180t tabletop gas grill

The Cuisinart CGG-180T model is a smaller device, but still big enough to cook about 6 chicken breasts at a time.

It comes in three color schemes: black and silver, red with black and silver, and stainless steel and black. The manufacturer (Cuisinart) is well-known for its home cooking goods and appliances.

Features of the grill

It’s got 145 square inches of cooking space from its 9 inches wide and 16 inches cooking surface area.

It takes a 16 oz camping size propane bottle, and produces 5,500 BTU on its stainless steel burner. The entire unit weighs 13.5 lbs.

The material of the grill

The cooking area itself is made out of porcelain enamel, which is easy to clean. The drip tray on the bottom is spill-resistant.

The grill top is removable so that you can clean it, and even put it in the dishwasher. Because it works on propane, there isn’t any ash to constantly scoop out.

Friendly design

The two legs on either side extend outwards to cook but fold up smaller when storing it. It also has a little locking lever to keep the grill lid shut and secure. The device has a carrying handle.

From box to outdoor table

When my gas grill box first arrived, I was initially concerned that it actually just contained a bunch of parts that I would have to assemble and put together myself.

I wasn’t sure how I felt about a cooking appliance that I had to assemble or whether I even had the right tools for it. I was so relieved when I found that wasn’t the case.

No assembly needed

What’s in the box is the fully assembled grill, you just need to move the feet into position, along with the handle. These two assembly steps were pretty intuitive all on their own.

They seem like purely a space saving measure to help keep the box size and packaging carbon footprint lower.

How do you start a Cuisinart portable gas grill?

Turning the device on was pretty intuitive, I just had to slowly turn the very big knob in the front of the grill.

I could hear a tiny click sound as the gas ignited. You can also see the flames burning.

Cooking food

It heated up quickly and I could feel with my hand how the heat was evenly distributed throughout the cooking surface, even around the corners. I cooked some chicken with ease and didn’t have any problems.

I did notice that it tends to flare up a little if drippings fall to the bottom of the grill, but I wasn’t bothered by it as that’s expected from any grill, and it doesn’t really affect the cooking process.

How much can you cook on the grill?

I felt that the quantity of food that the box claims that you can fit on the cooking surface is either over-inflated or that they used very small portion sizes.

If you cut all of the box claims in half, that’s about what it can actually cook.

So the box says that you can fit 8 steaks, 8 hamburgers, 6 chicken breasts, and 4 lbs of fish, but it’s more like 4 8 oz steaks, 4 chicken thighs with leg, 4 chicken breasts, or 4 1 lb to 1.5 lb salmon steaks.

Propane canisters

Because of the special handling procedures involved with the flammable gas propane, manufacturers aren’t really able to ship propane in boxes with products as part of a kit.

Where can you buy a propane tank?

But you can still buy propane at most grocery stores, hardware stores, and gas stations. Sometimes a store might throw a grill and propane together as a special store offered deal.

How much propane fuel will you need?

I like to use my grill every now and then. Based on how much propane I used for cooking, I would suspect that if I cooked between once every week and once every two weeks, I might go through a 16 oz propane canister about once every 2 months.

But how much propane the device uses depends on the cook. I like to cook things fast and quick, and I shut off the grill immediately when I’m done. But my spouse likes to take things slow, cook at a lower heat.

How do you clean a Cuisinart portable gas grill?

Some ovens have a setting where you can turn the oven on the highest temperature, close the door, and it will cook and burn away everything on the inside.

But you absolutely don’t want to do that with this grill – you will simply burn and char the inside of the device beyond use, and it will be ruined.

To clean it, I just wiped down the inside cooking surface. Then I took the drip tray and porcelain cooktop inside and sponged them down with soap and water.

After they air dried, I put them back inside the unit and it was all ready to go.

Who is this grill for?

Everyone has different needs, but I feel this model will work very well for you if you:

  • Have a smaller grill budget
  • Want a portable grill
  • Go to different places, such as parks, beaches, or campsites
  • Live in an apartment
  • Have a tiny backyard
  • Live in extreme temperatures so that it is difficult to reach the grill and endure the weather to cook
  • Family size of 1 to 4
  • Don’t like charcoal or wood grills

Should you get this tabletop grill?

This device is not for people who want to cook indoors, you’d need a special type of grill for that.

I think that this unit isn’t appropriate for people who want to cook a lot of food all at once, say a family that cooks a lot of food during the weekend because of the limited surface area.

Are Cuisinart gas grills any good?

Cuisinart makes high-performance grills that enable gourmet grilling no matter if you are a pro or not. This Petit Gourmet grill is a wonderful cooking appliance if you lack space at your backyard or apartment balcony.

No matter how small it looks it can feed a small family or group of friends. Quality material enables you to cook without food sticking to the cooking surface and enables long-lasting usage.

Final thoughts

I enjoyed my time with Cuisinart portable tabletop gas grill and I had no problems with it. It seems like the perfect size for a single person, a married couple, or someone who only has a few children.
